The trick's on me this Halloween
So, all in one week, I’ve had to loan a friend a sizable amount of money, had a major plumbing mishap I’ve had to pay for, and my laptop fried by a fluke static discharge. Suffice it to say, I’m wondering when an acme anvil is going to drop on my head. Eff my life.
So, I may be offline for a few days to a few weeks. Wish me luck, and RDT will be back as soon as I am.

My Picks for the Scariest Movies to Watch This...
Happy Halloween, everyone! Many people enjoy a good ghost story or a scary movie over the Halloween holiday. I, for one, love scary movies. (Even knowing that some of these films give me nightmares for weeks.) You’ll find a plethora of recommendations for your horror movie sampling out on the web, so I’ve taken care to mix in a few lesser known and/or forgotten movies that still pack...

End the War on Pot - NYtimes Commentary →
There are few failures in our political history bigger than the “War on Drugs.” As any student of history can attest, prohibition does little more than create a violent black market, increase crime, encourage the inequitable punishment of minorities, and prevent opportunities to create jobs and economic growth. (Unless, of course, you count gangs as businesses and legitimate...

DVR Your Friends
Sometimes people just dream up the niftiest things at the most convenient times, and for me, many of my ideas come to me while tipping beers with my friends in Columbia. (Heidelberg, what what?!) There’s just something inspiring about the sublime taste of Boulevard Wheat beer and recapturing my college days, if only for a little while.
The latest and greatest is…. DVR your friends.

Soros Gives $1 Million to California Pot...
I applaud George Soros for contributing to one of the most important democratic movements in our history. Proposition 19 will be one of the biggest steps in our nation’s history. Not only will California save millions on law enforcement and incarceration costs, they will make millions (some estimate billions) from the legal sale of marijuana. One can only hope that this step will cause...
Love Letter to San Diego Chargers Fans
My dear readers. By now, I’m sure most of you know how much I enjoy expressing my disdain for certain teams’ fans, and San Diego may have the worst fans in the country. This morning I was browsing their blog (http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com), and noticed that they were a bit touchy about Chiefs fans celebrating on their blog. Given my seething hatred for Chargers fans, I...

Mizzou Tigers Munching on White-Bread Sooner... →
This is a day I wasn’t sure I would ever see. Yes, I thought we could beat the Sooners today, but past MIZZOU teams have shot themselves in the foot repeatedly against Bob Stoops.
I’m glad they proved my fears unfounded. Congrats, Pinkel, you finally kicked Stoops’ ass. (And any two possession win over Oklahoma is indeed an ass kicking.)
As referenced in the post title, there...
Yanks Tossed like Yesterday's Garbage -... →
What makes this even sweeter is that Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada get paid more than the entire Texas Rangers ball club. Few things make a man smile more than seeing the Yanks made to look like a Singaporean hooker after the Navy’s left town.
I only wish George Steinbrenner had lived to see it, after everything he did to destroy baseball. See you next March, assholes!

Your Ideal Death?
Everyone wants their death to be quick, painless, and to occur without their realization. I think we can all agree that those are excellent conditions, but most of us have a death scenario we think would be ideal as well. (The most common being “asleep in bed.”)
Mine is this:
My ideal death would occur sometime shortly following my fiftieth birthday. (I have no desire to get...

Maureen Dowd - Making Ignorance Chic
Well said, Maureen, even if it’s a point that’s a bit overdone in our national media. Sarah Palin is a woman who is so thoughtless and stupid, that her actual words comprised a Saturday Night Live skit, and people effing loved it. How hard is it to name the newspapers you read? Really? It’s a lot easier than deciding how we as a country will dictate our foreign policy and...

Justices to Hear Appeal by Ashcroft Over Wrongful... →
Al-Kidd has no chance, but I admire his cajones (and those of Milan Smith Jr.) for at least publicly acknowledging the fact that these policies are egregious abuses of power. In the wake of 9-11, you could commit any unconscionable act you wanted against a muslim, and their religious status made it acceptable in our frenzied culture. Hell, there were 45 muslim students at Mizzou who left school...
Former Sec. of State Rice - "Mistakes Were Made in...
That’s putting mildly, Condoleezza. I hope to hell you’d do something different in light of all of the lies and mistakes that are known about this war. Iraq was and is one of the biggest mistakes of the last fifty years. As much as our esteemed former secretary would like to rewrite the record, deposing Saddam Hussein was not the stated goal of the Iraq War. The goals of the Iraq...

So… priests with vaginas are a problem, but they’re perfectly cool with a church that condones child molestation? Sounds to me like they have very strange priorities.

Nebraska vs Texas - (Nebraska goes down 20-13) →
As I’d hoped, the Husker farewell tour hit a speed bump today.
The score does not denote how differently these two teams played. (Nebraska’s lone touchdown coming on a fluke runback by Eric Hagg.) Nebraska played like that bearded fatigues-wearing hobo on the side of the highway, too drunk on his whiskey to wipe the mud off his face or hold up his cardboard sign. If you’d have...

For those of you who don’t know of Tommie Smith, he’s one of the celebrated Olympians who, in a gesture of protest and pride, raised a black gloved fist as he received his gold medal in 1968. If you don’t know who he is, you’ve no doubt seen the photo of the event. Either way, this moment became one of the most well known and important events in the history of racial...

Just… wow. Watching this game, I truly thought the Rangers had it locked up. (but they couldn’t hit the broad sign of a barn in a clutch situation if they had Angelina Jolie offering herself up for a homer)

This is one of the positive elements of HCR that most folks aren’t aware of, largely due to the mainstream media.
Be reminded, Obamacare instituted many protections that help to rein in the unconscionable rules that insurance providers place on care… like lifetime spending caps.

@kurt13warner So where was god when the bombs were falling in Afghanistan today?
kurt13warner Kurt Warner
@rssp55 He is still there, but we live in a fallen world & r hate causes bad things 2 happen... I just like when God steps in & helps us out
rssp55 Ryan Stevens
@kurt13warner With all due respect, Kurt, what we learned today is that the hands that help are better than the lips that pray.
kurt13warner Kurt Warner
@rssp55 How do you know that the prayers didn't make those hands effective... I understand ur point... go back & read my writing Why God?
rssp55 Ryan Stevens
@kurt13warner I don't, honestly. Perhaps you could answer me why God didn't intervene with the miners in WV last year? Why pick and choose?
rssp55 Ryan Stevens
@kurt13warner After all, the same people praying for the miners in WV were praying the miners in Chile, no?
kurt13warner Kurt Warner
@rssp55 Quite possible, and can't answer that... I wish I knew why, but I truly bel that His purpose is about eternity, Not just here!
rssp55 Ryan Stevens
@kurt13warner Fair enough, Kurt. Thanks for the discussion. I'm impressed with how respectable and kind you and ur former teammate (contd
rssp55 Ryan Stevens
@kurt13warner Larry Fitzgerald are. Most religious folks wouldn't be able to discuss this without the "h" word somewhere. : )
kurt13warner Kurt Warner
@rssp55 I am always open to discussion & understand how often it seems God is NOT there, but I think it depends on the view we have!

This is the bombshell article that many sports enthusiasts (Myself certainly included) have been discussing this week. It’s an engaging read, and perhaps one of the most important pieces of sports journalism we’ve seen in recent years.

Judge Orders End to DADT Enforcement - WHOOHOO!!!
Most of our allies have already integrated gay and lesbian soldiers into their military units. That we have not is yet another example of the puritanical hypocrisy in this country. Blunt -vs- Carnahan - Can't We All Just Get Along?
Am I the only one who sees that the ads on both sides of this race discredit both of the major candidates? This country voted not just to be rid of Bush, but also to be rid of this wretched partisan howling and backbiting that we’re seeing again in the run up to November 2nd. What the ads this election season tell us is that both Roy Blunt and Robin Carnahan are slick and corrupt...
