Anonymous asked: Have you ever heard of an atheist threatening to kill those who don’t share their views? All religions/cults are guilty of this at one point or another.
Dogmatically anti-theistic regimes have committed some of the greatest atrocities of history. Mao Ze-Dong and Joseph Stalin alone murdered 72,000,000+ people. Some pretty terrible things have admittedly been committed in the name of religion, but the claim cannot be made that atheism is somehow exempt from all of this.
It’s funny how you constantly mention this. 1) This is the past 2) You are ignoring the politics behind their regimes. You can then inverse my argument and say: “the Dark Ages, the Inquisition, etc. are in the past also and these events were also fueled by political agendas.” Right, but militant Atheism is dead. Communist views like that of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao are dead. However, Militant Theism is alive and well. You hate to admit it, but homosexuals have been stoned in recent years; as a matter of fact, just last year. Abortion clinics have been bombed. Anders Breivik drafted an anti-Islam and anti-Hindu manifesto prior to committing a horrid act in Norway. Then you would point to Christopher Hitchens assaulting your religion verbally. You would point to Richard Dawkins stridency. You would refer to Atheists’ rebuttals on Tumblr. The day an Atheist has you at gunpoint is the day you can make a case. I’m sure none of us have ever had such feelings toward you or your brethren. I respect your right to life and your right to believe. However, I don’t respect your slander of a view that isn’t your own and Atheism isn’t the only view you’ve openly attacked. I’m talking to the guy who lost a slew of followers due to anti-Mormon sentiment. You have a lot to learn; so, either live and let live or be prepared to have your every argument lethally injected. It is high time that this type of Theism is buried — at the height of its bigotry and intolerance. It is time that a people make a strong stand against it. Downplaying the horrors committed by your religion by mentioning the horrors that can arguably be attributed to Atheism is the epitome of contortion. Your mushy feelings aside, Christianity is dead. I can convince you of that if you weren’t so fearfully stubborn.
Then there’s the little problem of the fact that Mao and Stalin were not motivated by religion, unlike say Hitler and Torquemada. I find it really annoying that this fact is simply ignored by Christian apologists who want to paint atheists as equal to Christians in terms of historical religious atrocities.
It’s bullshit, and sloppy, quite frankly.
