Lol @ people who think atheist oppression doesn’t exist in America in any form.
How many times do you have to say “this isn’t the oppression olympics” before it gets through peoples thick skulls?
When you LOSE YOUR JOB, or YOUR KIDS because you are an atheist, I would call that oppression (both are documented cases)
What would you call it then, hm? Someone who should have kept their mouth shut, and pretended to be someone they aren’t?
Just in the past year, you had an entire town turn on one kid for having the audacity to request that his school omit the traditional prayer during graduation. He was also thrown out of his home and disowned by his family, who were fully supported by their fellow citizens. You had another kid (and their family) receive death threats for suing to have a religious endorsement removed from the walls of her school.
Yes, there’s a seedy undercurrent of social justice activists on Tumblr who truly think there is a hierarchy to prejudice, but they make asses of themselves often enough that one learns not to take them seriously.
Thankfully, I have a very supportive family who don’t really care that I’m an atheist, even though most of them are Christian. About the worst thing I deal with is snide remarks (which I don’t mind answering at all) and, once, a lover who broke up with me because she felt that she couldn’t conscientiously date an atheist.
