I haven’t read too much into myself, either, honestly. However, according to the Secretary of State, the goal of said treaty is to establish greater controls on international weapons distribution to ensure that weapons to do not make their way to terrorist regimes.
It’s important to remember two things: First, any treaty that meets with approval in the UN has to be ratified by the Senate, and you can be damn sure that they would never get the votes needed to ratify a treaty that bans gun ownership. Secondly, the Supreme Court itself recently ruled that the gun ban in Washington, D.C. was unconstitutional, so it’s a pretty safe bet that any treaty banning guns domestically would thus be ruled unconstitutional.
Plus, the president himself has said they won’t support any international treaty that would attempt to regulate US domestic gun ownership.
So yeah, in short, that Facebook post I put up early is pretty freaking stupid.
