Man, oh man. I do enjoy some jayhawk stew!
And with Kansas losing so much lately, I’ve gotten to eat quite a bit of it. Keep up the !@#$ty basketball, jayhawks! Woohoo!

vgmgc replied to your post: In the knowledge that Kansas will very soon pass a bill that explicitly legalizes discrimination against gay and lesbian people in housing and employment, I have to wonder…
Are there a lot of LGBT republicans? I mean, I know there are at least some, but I assumed they were few and far between…
I don’t think there’s any way of knowing how many there are, but one would hope that laws such as this one demonstrate to them what the Republican Party is truly about: jesus freakiness and socializing corporate losses.
And took some heat doin’ it, too. ‘Way to go, Occupy Wichita, who issued a call to action and got people to the meeting!
Folks, you can find the records of Kobach’s office on alleged voter fraud cases online. (Conveniently available at aclu.org.)
His office has received more than two hundred reports since 1997, but you know what? Only five cases have actually been prosecuted, affecting less than ten votes. What this tells me is that racist Kansans are seeing brown people at the polls and crying wolf. Averaged out over that fifteen year period, it comes out to 0.6 affected votes per year. So, considering we know that voter fraud is basically nonexistent in Kansas, ask yourself why these clowns are pursuing laws that would make it administratively impossible for thousands of people to vote?
It’s simple. They’re repaying ALEC for campaign contributions.
One hopes she never takes a trip to Europe…
It’s passed the State House, and now heads to the State Senate. Brownback would sign it if it passes. Find out who your state senator is here, and write them about this issue if you feel strongly about it.
If doctors in Kansas obey their oaths and the ethical standards of their profession, this law should be a meaningless political gesture. Sadly, for far too many jesus freaks, ethics are trumped by agenda, and women and the health risks associated with pregnancy are an afterthought.
From the comments: “Curious what happens to this issue when a woman of authority finally gets a chance to participate.”
To summarize, insurance providers and governments are not permitted to discriminate based on a person’s sex. I don’t understand why such a simple and valid argument finds such a difficult time penetrating so-called ‘conservative’ brains.
When Kansas Republicans bitch about people speaking honestly on their abortion voting record, one has to wonder why they’re so angry about the negative publicity.
Seriously.
These are the dumb fucks that tried to ban abortion by regulating the dimensions of janitor’s closets, as if that has anything to do with women’s health. And they’re pushing fetal pain bills despite the fact that the American Medical Association and RCOG have called bullshit on their baseless beliefs. Not to mention their most recent outrage: trying to make it legal for doctors to lie to their patients about health risks to persuade them against choosing abortion.
And these bastards still haven’t delivered any meaningful economic or job legislation, which really, really pisses me off.
This is why I should not read comment threads that are frequented by Kansans. The heartless bastards commenting in support of Brownback’s new food stamp rules almost certainly do not represent all of Kansas, but it’s heard to imagine, considering they elected that evil son-of-a-bitch.
I can’t imagine anyone thinking it’s cool to starve children for political points, but there are at least fifteen internet tough guys who are perfectly cool with that. These are people who’ve never fostered or adopted a child, even though they want everyone else to. They’ve never seen a bone-thin three year old so traumatized by hunger that even after months of regular meals, she still hides food in her bedroom because she’s afraid that she won’t get another meal.
How is this in any way ‘conservative’?
And are we really THIS hateful to do this to thousands of Kansas children?
On a whim, I decided to interrupt my football game and take a look at the KC Star, and I really wish I hadn’t. I saw this atrocious gem:
At a time when Gov. Sam Brownback has vowed to reduce child poverty, the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services — a state agency the governor controls — made a policy change that eliminated food stamps for hundreds of low-income U.S. children whose parents are illegal immigrants. For more households, benefits were reduced.
This is why you so-called ‘Pro-Life’ people do not deserve to call yourselves pro-life.
Do you really think it’s cool for Republicans to give handouts to their golf buddies and literally take food out of the mouths of kids?
I don’t care if someone’s parents jumped the border. That is their crime. Their children have committed no crime, and deserve the full benefits that US citizen should receive, including food stamps. Their parents’ crimes do not give the state a license to starve them into relocating. What’s even worse is Brownback didn’t stop there, though, he’s unilaterally reducing benefits for all low-income households.
The moral of the story is… if they call themselves ‘pro-life’, Christian, and ‘fiscal conservative’ in Kansas, they are fucking lying to you.
Aisha’s family just sent us another photo of her. Please contact authorities if you saw her that morning at the KU Edwards campus or in the surrounding areas.
