President Obama has made a variety of claims about the American Jobs Act, most notably the fact that the bill would boost the economy — and be fully paid for. How do those claims stand up to scrutiny? According to the non-partisan CBO, pretty well

All told, the American Jobs Bill, the CBO concluded, would reduce the deficit by $3 billion over the next 10 years, and that doesn’t factor in potential savings associated with increased revenue from a healthier economy.

The CBO’s findings don’t come as a big surprise — Democrats tend to take arithmetic seriously when crafting legislation — but they leave Republicans with no excuses for failure. The bill that’s on the table, as objective matter, creates jobs, cuts taxes, is fully paid for, and reduces the deficit.

As with everything, Republicans will simply ignore, lie, and spin the CBO’s findings, despite the fact they are are non-partisan.

Wikileaks Takes Down the Head of Al Jazeera

    jonathan-cunningham:

Wadaj Khanfar, the director of Al Jazeera, announced his resignation today after Wikileaks released documents that could prove embarassing to the news organization, the New York Times has reported.

According to the documents, Khanfar held particularly close ties with the U.S. government, to whom he promised the network would provide less critical coverage. He steps down today after running the network for eight years.

The documents allege that Khanfar censored some of Al Jazeera’s coverage of the conflict in Iraq under American pressure to sanitize its coverage, presumably to minimize anti-U.S. sentiment in the Arab world. The coverage in question was to include images of injured civilians, which were allegedly removed by Khanfar.

To an American media outlet, colluding with the government is actually a sign of respectability. Remember when the New York Times hid Bush’s warrantless wiretapping of American citizens for over a year?

Wikileaks… protecting us from scumbag liars everywhere.

(Daily Mail By RACHEL QUIGLEY) — A four-year-old boy was beaten to death by his mother’s boyfriend because he got in his way when he was playing a video game.
Sean Stalwart, 34, from Illinois, was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Jeremiah Bradford last September.
Stalwart told his cellmate that he beat the boy so severely he died from internal bleeding because he wanted to ‘toughen him up’, after he got in his way while he was playing computer.
The boy’s mother Patricia Cage, has also been charged with first-degree murder for covering up the beating and failing to get the child medical attention. Her trial is pending.
Prosecutors claim that instead, the couple drove to McDonalds for dinner and then took the boy back home again. Jeremiah continued to vomit through the night.
It was only the next morning that they took the four-year-old to the hospital but he died on the way due to internal bleeding.
Authorities say Jeremiah could have survived if he’d been admitted to the hospital right away, according to the Riverfront Times.
Prosecutors said that through the night, Jeremiah lost about half the blood in his body.
Stalwart initially told investigators that Jeremiah hurt himself by jumping off the couch. But an autopsy revealed that the blows were so severe they caused damage to some of the tissue in the child’s digestive system.
Five sets of the boy’s soiled clothing were also recovered from his home.
Stalwart this week pleaded guilty to first degree murder and it is thought he may face 48 years in prison, which he must serve.
Cage and Stalwart’s baby - which they had together since Jeremiah died - is now in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Jermiah’s grandfather said that his grandson was due to go to soccer practice that day, according to the Riverfront Times.
Mr Bradford said: ‘I was looking forward to that Saturday to watch him play soccer. I thought I was going to watch him play soccer, but instead, they called me and told me to go to the hospital. That hit me hard.’

Shit like this makes me cry.  How can we expect our people to treat their children with love and respect when we live in a culture that equates violence with strength and masculinity?
I hope these two get to spend the next sixty years of their lives in prison.

Jackie Kennedy Said Martin Luther King Was ‘Terrible,’ Tapes Reveal (WIDK)
Posted to WIDK by Bianca Coombs
(Rachel Rose Hartman, The Ticket) -   Jacqueline Kennedy was not a fan of Martin Luther King Jr., according to never-before-released interviews, ABC News reports—and it appears her opinion was shaped by FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.
“I just can’t see a picture of Martin Luther King without thinking, you know, that man’s terrible,” the former first lady revealed in a series of interviews with historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. in the months following the 1963 assassination of husband John F. Kennedy.
According to tapes of the interviews—which ABC plans to reveal Sept. 13 during a two-hour special—Kennedy’s displeasure with the civil rights leader stemmed from information Hoover gleaned from secret wiretaps and revealed to the Kennedy family.
Hoover reportedly told the president that King attempted to arrange a hotel orgy while in town for his now-famous March on Washington and Hoover told Robert F. Kennedy that King insulted JFK’s funeral.
“He made fun of Cardinal [Richard] Cushing [who issued Kennedy’s eulogy] and said that he was drunk at it. And things about they almost dropped the coffin and—well, I mean Martin Luther King is really a tricky person,” Jacqueline Kennedy reportedly said.
Caroline Kennedy told ABC’s Diane Sawyer that her mother’s comments are evidence of Hoover’s “poisonous” activities and that her mother admired the civil rights leader “tremendously.”
Historian Michael Beschloss posited to ABC that Hoover was trying to manipulate the Kennedys to turn against King.
Jacqueline Kennedy also reveals in the historic interviews that her husband was incredibly wary of his vice president, Lyndon B. Johnson, becoming commander-in-chief.
“He said, ‘Oh, God, can you ever imagine what would happen to the country if Lyndon was president?’” Kennedy quoted her husband saying.
Kennedy said that in the months before the assassination, JFK spoke to his brother about how to prevent Johnson from running to succeed him in the 1968 election.

Mother Visits Tanning Salon – Leaves Her Toddler Daughter in 135 Degree Hot Car (WIDK)
(Daily Mail By JOHN STEVENS) — A Colorado mother has defended herself after she was charged with child abuse for leaving her toddler in a 135F while she went to a tanning salon.
Imene Nouis, 31, said it was ‘just a misjudgment’ after police found the child left inside the hot car in Parker.
‘It’s like anybody that drinks and drives and ends up hurting, injuring, or killing somebody. Are they bad people? No. Will they be blamed for it? Yes,’ Nouis told 9News.
‘As a human, tell me one person that hasn’t made a mistake,’ she added. ‘Thank God it wasn’t a detrimental mistake.’
Police were called on Thursday at around 1:15pm to the tanning salon after someone reported seeing the child left alone in the hot vehicle.
Officers removed the child from the car and then had to get a salon employee to get the mother out of a tanning bed to speak to her.
‘This situation could have turned out a lot worse than it was,’ police spokesman Sherry Corcoran told Fox 31. ‘The car was actually off. The windows were rolled up.’
Nouis had been in the tanning bed for 12 minutes when she was removed.
‘Due to the temperatures and temperatures in the car they thought it proper she be cited for child abuse,’ Ms Corcoran said.
The outside temperature was 86F, but inside the vehicle police measured the temperature at 135F.
Nouis was cited for child abuse and released with her baby daughter.

What really sucks is if they’d caught this so-called ‘parent’ with a joint, they might actually do some serious time.  Gotta love how Americans are completely cool with putting someone in jail for smoking a joint, but a legitimate child abuser will never see the inside of a jail cell.

Mandatory sex education implemented in NYC schools

    liberal-life:

It’s the first time in nearly two decades that middle and high school students will be forced to take the mandatory classes, according to a report first published in The New York Times.

One of the lessons includes instruction on how to properly use a condom.

“We must be committed to ensuring that both middle school and high school students are exposed to this valuable information so they can learn to keep themselves safe before, and when, they decide to have sex,” NYC Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott wrote in a letter to principals and obtained by Fox News Radio.

Children as young as 11 years old will take part in discussions on a variety of topics ranging from the risks of unprotected sex to the appropriate age for sexual activity, the newspaper reported.

“I believe the school system has an important role to play with regard to educating our children about sex and the potential consequences of engaging in risky behavior,” he said. But there are concerns about the mandatory classes among New York City’s religious community.

Ray Parascando, pastor of Crossroads Church, called the news “disheartening.”

“Children are being forced to learn about this away from home,” he told Fox News Radio. “There’s nothing wrong with learning about the human body, but when you start going into discourses on sexuality, I worry that we’re opening students up to other agendas.”

Until now, sex education classes had been left to the discretion of local principals, but Family Research Council senior fellow Peter Sprigg said now the city is trying to “impose a mandatory, top-down curriculum.” (Source)

It’s nice to see New York City implementing common-sense education policies that will not only prevent abortions, but help equip people with the knowledge to ensure their own sexual health.
