On the statement of Zimmerman’s doctor.

    blogvader:

Folks, no one wants to hear this, but let’s be honest here.  None of us knows a thing about what happened that night other than a kid getting shot in the chest and the identity of the person who pulled the trigger.  Maybe Trayvon attacked Zimmerman, and maybe he did not.  I don’t know, and neither do you.

Our work has ensured that Zimmerman will stand trial, now let the courts determine the truth based on the evidence. Speculation and emotionally discounting anything that runs contrary to the preferred narrative makes us look exactly like the knuckle-dragging racists who blindly support George Zimmerman.

What’s right at this point is leaving it to the courts to determine the truth, and I, for one, just hope they get it right.

I’m reblogging this because I don’t want to repeat myself to all of the folks who feel they need to litigate this in public, again.

    Self Defense

After waking up early this morning, I found on CNN that the gentleman (and I use the term loosely) who murdered seventy people in Norway is claiming self defense.  I’d call it absurd, but as an American, do I really have any moral ground to criticize his please?

Now, someone correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t it seem as if we’ve lost any concept of what self-defense really is? From Stand-Your-Ground laws to Bush’s preemptive wars, to Brandon Zeth, Trayvon Martin, and Bo Morrison, we as a people have made sacred some perceived license to escalate confrontations and perpetuate violence.  Zeth was just drunk and unfortunate enough to walk to the wrong house in the middle of the night.  Morrison had the misfortune to hide out in the wrong backyard after cops broke up a party he was attending. Hell, our so-called Department of Defense kills more people in the world than anyone else, and we have no rightful way of knowing how many.

It really just disgusts me, the American concept of ‘self-defense’.

Why have a court system when the media and general public determine who’s guilty and innocent?

If the Casey Anthony trial is any indication, the media and public have very little bearing on court proceedings in Florida.

Truth.

Get away with it all… except smoking weed.  For that, they’ll throw your ass in jail for decades.

White Supremacist Hacks Trayvon Martin's Email Account, Leaks Messages Online (via @Gawker)

With this, I’m officially disgusted with most of the people who have an opinion on the Trayvon Martin murder.

Between the racist fucks trying to smear the name of a murder victim whose sole crime was an ill-timed shopping trip to a 7-11, and people encouraging vigilantism on Twitter, even when it endangers innocent people, the behavior of people in this country is just indescribably awful.

To the people who participated in these incidents, you really should be ashamed of yourselves.

Students from 31 Miami-Dade schools walked out of class Friday in "unprecedented" mass rally against the killing of #TrayvonMartin - MiamiHerald.com

    socialismartnature:

Students from 31 Miami-Dade schools walked out of class Friday in a mass rally against the killing of Trayvon Martin, in what the schools chief called an unprecedented act of protest sparked by social media and text messages.

Demonstrations spread to 19 high schools, many of them predominantly black, and at least 10 middle schools from Homestead to North Dade, where kids left class en masse. About 10 Broward County schools also held protests Friday.

"To call #GeorgeZimmerman a monster is too easy. And it lets everyone off the hook. Nah. He’s not a monster; he’s an American—acting and behaving in the way that DEFINES what it means to be truly American. Let us deal with THAT."

Son of Baldwin, for #TrayvonMartin (via sonofbaldwin)

    ___

    Seriously?

Calling Zimmerman a monster is ‘letting him off the hook’? How so?  It would seem to me that, within the context of his actions, calling him a monster demonstrates that people feel his actions were fucking monstrous, and no one calling him a monster wants him off the hook.  We want him behind fucking bars. They’re calling him a monster because his actions set him apart as someone truly heinous.

And, please explain to me how gunning someone down on a street defines one as a ‘true American’, unless you’re making light of the fact that we have significantly higher gun-related incidents in this country by comparison to others. America is indeed unique in its gun worshiping civic religion, but gun-related incidents occur worldwide. (And there are three countries that actually outrank us in terms of gun-related crime, at least in 2011.)
