I’ve taken on a bad habit.

That is, when someone on my facebook feed whines about Obama’s economic record, but doesn’t actually make a note of why they dislike it, I ask for reasons.

And, most folks don’t seem to be aware that there are legitimate reasons to dislike Obama’s economic policy (such as the continuing irrelevance of the middle class to corporate profits) yet these people have no idea what they are.

They just repeat slogans, and it makes me sad.

Is anyone surprised that the GOP lied about the Benghazi emails?

    CBS reported it tonight.

That’s on top of blocking additional embassy security funding requests by Secretary Clinton, cutting funding for embassy security that was already in place, and ignoring all of the lies and crimes committed by the Bush Administration with regards to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Including but not limited to exposing CIA agents, torture, renditions, and lying about the existence of WMD’s.)

And, to make things even worse in my eyes, these idiotic Congressional Republicans held yet another pointless symbolic vote to repeal HCR today. (That makes, what, fifty?  How many wasted hours does that make?)

Here’s what I take from the Republicans’ obsession with Benghazi:

Wars where thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghan people died are perfectly cool even though they were based on lies, lies that were protected by such extreme actions as outing CIA agents, because a Republican did it.

Embassy attacks are not cool, even if Republicans cut funding for embassy security and blocked requests for more. It’s not their fault and they won’t admit their complicity. (And, ironically, they’ve outed CIA agents during the Benghazi hearings too.)

This is why I won’t vote Democrat or Republican. Both sides are fully willing to overlook their own failures and demonize the other, usually wasting an eff-ton of taxpayer money and time in the process.

I’d much rather these assholes focus on jobs.

    confused-companion:

whoever wrote this line needs to receive a medal

This is probably true, but let’s be honest here, there are millions of women (at least in the US) lining up in support of regressive abortion laws.  This isn’t just a ‘man’ problem.  It’s a Christian problem.
The sadder thing is that many of those women still want to get their abortions on the sly when they get pregnant unintentionally.

    Irony and hypocrisy

So, there’s a ban on religious proselytizing coming for the US Military. (Religous, meaning the other religions too and not just Christianity.)

Therefore, naturally, Christians are pissy about it. (After all, what value is their religion if they can’t bug people who don’t want to hear about it?)

When are they going to complain about being ordered to commit war crimes, I wonder? Where’s their Christianity when they’re being told to drop a bomb on a wedding party or first responders in Afghanistan?  Or a sixteen year-old kid in Yemen?

Where’s your Christianity then, jesus freaks? Thou shalt not kill, right?

    badb-catha:

We don’t need leaders who are affable, entertaining, funny, friendly, or hip. Hiring the best children’s entertainer seems to be the ultimate outcome of western liberal democracy.

“Oh, that guy likes the Bee Gees too! We could be friends. If we can’t be neighbours, well, then I guess the next best thing would be to put him in a position of power.”

This is something that really annoys me about Tumblr:  Folks who seem to think that Obama’s a swell guy simply because he makes nerd references, as if he isn’t dropping bombs on innocent people across the world.  Hell, he made it legal to kill people during torture… so what do we care if he’s into fucking Star Wars?

So, Ted Nugent calls Hillary Clinton a cunt, Senator Feinstein a whore, makes domestic terrorist threats, calls the president a piece of shit, and he gets an invitation to the SOTU by the Republican Party?

Am I the only one who sees the irony in an admitted pedophile calling ANYONE sexual insults?  (Never mind the fact that his accomplishments pale in comparison to the people he is denigrating.)

And, honestly, I can’t imagine that disgusting redneck anywhere near the Capitol dome without laughing my ass off. Is this REALLY the best you can do, GOP?

Dear Republicans who think they lost the elections due to redistricting:

Someone had the audacity and the ignorance to suggest to me that Republicans lost the election due to redistricting.  That silly excuse is a distraction from the real problem. Here’s a short list detailing why I think that is complete bullshit, having watched Republicans turn the people against them in just two short years:

    • They nominated a clown car of delusional, extremist candidates that couldn’t connect with the middle class, and in many cases insulted them outright. (ie, 47%) Mitt Romney, whom Bloomberg reported paid almost no taxes from 1997 to 2009, and cared more about hiding that fact than being vetted by the American people. (And he admitted he hates most Americans anyway.) Michelle Bachmann, who blamed vaccines for mental retardation. Rick Santorum, who thinks homosexuality should be criminal and women should be jailed for having miscarriages. Herman Cain, who we learned is a wee bit of a pervert and a misogynist. Newt ‘Moon Base’ Gingrich, who treats his wives like garbage. The only reasonably sane one, Huntsman, didn’t get any air time.
    • They promised people jobs, and instead acted in a manner that was directly and intentionally harmful to the economy, giving us our first-ever drop in the national credit rating. And, they’re about to do it again despite the fact that they know it helped them lose elections.
    • They regulate vaginas. (ie, ban birth control coverage.) They do not regulate guns, even though the publicly is overwhelmingly supportive of gun control after a year filled with mass shootings.
    • The ‘Path to Prosperity’. (ie, make grandma pay for all of the money we took from Social Security to fund our adventures in Iraq.)
    • They scapegoated public servants for the debt and the recession while rubber-stamping billions upon billions in corporate welfare. (Even voting down cuts to NASCAR and tax goodies for energy companies making hundreds of billions in profit.)
    • They opposed the payroll tax holiday, in direct contradiction to their own platform.

Redistricting, my foot. Keep repeating that to yourself as John ‘Crybaby’ Boehner and Mitchy ‘Filibuster my own bill’ McConnell drive you guys even further into the ditch.

If you haven’t read the White House response to the Death Star petition, here’s the link. I promise that you won’t regret it.

    Pure, unadulterated, magnificent geekery!
